First Endurance rider Lisa Brennauer (Canyon-SRAM Professional Cycling Team) displayed an impressive performance tonight to take the win in the Omloop van Borsele time trial. The former world champion stormed around the 19.9km course in 26 minutes and 22 seconds. Brennauer finished just under three seconds ahead of Ellen van Dijk (DLT) and Chantal Blaak (DLT).
With an average speed of 45.26km/hour Brennauer started fast on the technical course. “I really didn’t have a pacing plan tonight. I knew that I wanted to start out fast and then see what I can do in the last part, see what I can hold. I’m really happy with my time trial today.”
Just 23 seconds separated the top six finishers and Brennauer explains she knew it would be a close finish. “I heard in the middle of the race that I was really good and I knew I was close to van Dijk. I caught two riders in the race which helped. Then you really have a point to go to and to focus on so that made me go even faster. I’m really happy with the win. It’s a great way for me to end my Spring campaign.”
Riding her first time trial for the team, British rider Hannah Barnes finished in 17th position. Barnes recapped her race “I was pretty scared at the start because I really didn’t want to come last! I tried to pace it but I felt that I didn’t go out hard enough at the start. I saved a bit too much for the finish because I knew it was going to be a headwind for the last 5km or so. I could have gone out harder. The bike felt AMAZING! Considering I only rode it the first time yesterday I’m happy with that. I’m looking forward to setting it up further and practicing more on it.” Learn more about First Endurance Supplements here.
