First Endurance rider Alena Amialiusik (Velocio-SRAM) has continued the team’s winning form by winning the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic. Amialiusik went to the line solo, ahead of Visit Dallas rider Amber Neben who finished second, and Lauren Komanski (Twenty16 p/b Sho Air) was third to round out the podium.
“I am so happy to win this race. The break was hard, especially when it was so hot, but we worked well together. I knew that Amber was in good form, after her USA nationals road race, so when she was with me, I liked our chances to stay away,” said Amialiusik. “In last night’s criterium in Winston-Salem our team was racing strong, and Loren was second. When I was away today I knew that my team mates would be working behind me to make sure it stuck. I have to thank them for their job today too,” added Amialiusik.
Team Director Ronny Lauke, said the constitution of the break was perfect for the team. “Alena is racing great at the moment and when she was joined by Amber, I thought that it looked a good move for us. At one point, Villumsen from UHC tried to bridge across but one individual rider was not able to make the gap. In the end the whole peloton, even though it was reduced in size, was not able to bring back the two out the front. It’s a great result for the team.”
