Powerful fuel
I use the EFS liquid shot in conjunction with the EFS Pro mix. On its own, the gel is a fantastic product. It is easy on the stomach, and its formulation provides much more than just the sugar in other gels. When used with the EFS Pro drink mix, I have found that they work together to provide all the energy necessary to fuel long(7-9hr) hot, intense mountain bike races. Since using the First Endurance EFS liquid shot, I have certainly never had to supplement with extra electrolyte, which is a distinct advantage because I have one less thing to worry about carrying and consuming.

100 miler

Fantastic product and great customer service!. I was training for my first 100 mile trail race and had some product questions. Robert returned my call and he spent about 30 minutes talking to me about my nutrition plan for the race. Stomach distress has always been a problem for me during my races so I was really concerned going into my first 100. Although I have used Liquid Shots for several years without problems, I was told by experienced 100 milers that that probably wouldn't be enough to get me through. Robert asked me questions and his recommendations were to keep my calories between 150-200 an hour, to go gluten free 48 hours prior to race day and to avoid fats during the race (others were recommending avocados). He told me the EFS Drink and Liquid Shots would get me to the finish. I took his advice. During the race, I only took in those along with a few banana bites here and there. Not only did I finish, but for the first time ever, I had NO GI problems! No nausea, no cramping, nothing! I was one of only 96 finishers out of 250 starters! Robert nailed it for me! Thank you! I'm a customer for life!

The BEST for quick calories
I love EFS Liquid Shot. I’ve tried other brands of gels in the past and they all have that same thick consistency that makes you feel like you have to wash it down or break it down in your mouth before you swallow it but not with EFS LS. EFS LS has a more “fluid” consistency that goes down smooth and tastes SO good! My biggest problem is that I want to chug the whole thing because I love the flavor. EFS LS is my “go to” quick calorie source for all my races and endurance rides. I see they have a new Wild Berry coming soon…I can’t wait to try it.

  • Overall:
excellent over the long haul
Having run ultras for 10 years I have also had 10 years of stomach problems and difficulty staying fueled over the long haul. I have switched to EFS liquid shot as my ONLY source of calories and I have managed to keep my stomach under control in varying, extreme conditions. Thanks for a great product.

Great fuel - easy on the stomach
I started using the liquid shot last year after experiencing GI issues during my ironman in 2008 and the subsequent half I raced. After switching to the liquid shot (also use the drink powder) I have not had any issues during my last ironman (St. George) or any half distance like I used to experience. It works great for me!

This is a different shot. This puppy delivers a potent 400 calories including 1500mg of electrolytes, 1000mg of amino acids all delivered from a 100% recyclable, resealable flask. Unlike most gels on the market, this one has no gel agents so your digestion will stay normal and absorption will be fairly rapid.

The fact that it doesn’t have gelling agents and it doesn’t paste up in the mouth means it’s absorbed into the bloodstream quicker. We had a chance to try it, and not only does it deliver the caloric goods, but the vanilla flavor tastes truly fantastic. Hitting the flask will soon take on a whole new meaning.

This lightly sweetened energy concentrate with a creamy consistency is easier to swallow and digest than gel, especially in cold weather when gels tend to thicken. We liked the no-mess closable spout that lets you take as much as needed per workout.

    DON’T CALL IT A GEL

Unlike the ‘gels’ that are on the market, EFS Liquid Shots don’t contain any gelling agents, which can slow down absorption and digestion.

Features include our exclusive 400-calorie supercharged endurance formula that boasts over 1500mg electrolytes, 1000mg amino acids and 100 grams of simple & complex carbohydrates, all in clinically effective doses.

Plus, EFS Liquid Shots don’t contain Vitamin C because the latest research shows that Vitamin C can have a negative effect on endurance and performance when consumed during exercise.

The Liquid Shot flask has a re-sealable pop-top that allows you to take as little or as much as you want. They’re also refillable and 100% recyclable, and available in a 32-ounce refill.

    WE RECOMMEND TOGETHER

    RESEARCH

    ENERGY = CARBOHYDRATES

Consuming carbohydrates during prolonged exercise enhances performance by supplying energy for muscles to use when glycogen stores begin to drop.

EFS products have been specifically formulated to deliver the ideal blend of complex carbohydrates, glucose (dextrose) and sucrose for energy. Clinical research shows a combination of carbohydrates is better than a single source for the absorption and utilization of blood glucose (Guezennec, C.Y, et.al.).  EFS products also provide three different high-glycemic sources of carbohydrates for immediate energy and easy digestion during long and intense workouts.

The low osmolality of the EFS energy drink and ideal 7% carbohydrate solution provides superior fluid absorption. Clinical research shows that energy drinks mixed within 6-8% offer the optimal absorption of both carbohydrates and fluid for endurance racing and training (Shi, K et al.). The biochemical structure of the carbohydrate, the absorption process, the size of the food particle, the degree of processing, the contents and timing of the previous meal, and the co-ingestion of fat, fiber, or protein affect the absorption of a carbohydrate as well as its glycemic index (GI).

    CONVERSION

The ability to rapidly replenish carbohydrates after training, and the ability to consume and convert ingested carbohydrates into a usable form of carbohydrate, is important in allowing you to train and compete at your best. Ingestion of the wrong carbohydrates at the wrong time, or ingesting too little carbohydrate can impair performance both in the short term and long term.

Consuming a slowly digested carbohydrate during times where the body is at or above threshold can lead to disaster. During times where you exercise or race at and above your threshold, your blood circulation is focused on the working muscles and away from the stomach. This makes digestion of foods difficult.

In fact, consuming a slowly absorbed sugar during these times will slow gastric emptying (the emptying of fluids and foods from the stomach to the blood stream) and in essence block fluids from being absorbed. This can actually cause dehydration.

PATENTED SOURCES OF CALCIUM & MAGNESIUM

The EFS drink formula uses two unique patented sources of calcium and magnesium as amino acid malates.

DiCalcium malate and DiMagnesium malate have superior bioavailability over other calcium sources. DiCalcium malate in a bioavailability study proved to be absorbed significantly better and remained elevated from time 0 to 12 hours, representing a more absorbable form for a longer period. Absorption rates were between 20% and 100% higher using DiCalcium and DiMagnesium Malate.

Furthermore, these superior minerals also offer a buffering of stomach acids. DiCalcium malate and DiMagnesium Malate lower stomach acids significantly, helping to reduce the unwanted gastric distress that can be associated with other minerals.

UNIQUE FLUID & ELECTROLYTE REQUIREMENTS FOR ENDURANCE ATHLETES

Endurance athletes have different fluid and electrolyte needs, particularly during longer and higher intensity training sessions and competition. The increased loss of sweat translates into an increased loss of electrolytes, and, as previously mentioned, sodium is one of the important electrolytes that must be replaced during exercise to prevent dehydration and hyponatremia.

The composition of standard sport drinks may not provide an adequate amount of electrolytes during activity lasting longer than two hours. Most standard sports drinks contain 50- 110 mg (200-460 mg/liter) of sodium per 8 oz.

Because we are limited on the amount of fluid the body can absorb by the intestines, it may be important to consume a higher amount of sodium during exercise to minimize fluid loss. The body can tolerate a higher sodium intake (closer to the amount lost in sweat) and it does not appear to negatively affect carbohydrate absorption.

    Q&A

Q: How much EFS-LS should I use during my training and racing?

A: Clinical research shows that athletes should consume about 200 calories, >1000mg Amino Acids, 400-600mg sodium and equivalent balance in all electrolytes should be taken every hour during exercise. EFS-LS is designed to maximize all these levels. At this rate a flask is sufficient for a two hour exercise bout. Because athletes vary greatly in their caloric demands it is best to try different levels to see which level works best for you.

Q: What is EFS Liquid Shot?

A: EFS LS (liquid shot) is a new energy product that provides endurance athletes with the nutrients they need to fuel working muscles and increase endurance during exercise. The EFS formula utilizes the latest clinical research on endurance nutrition and input from some of the best endurance athletes in the world.

Q: How long after I open an EFS-LS do I have before I need to consume it?

A: The timeline begins once you take your first swig of the EFS liquid shot. Following your first swig, EFS LS should be consumed within 24 hours.

Q: What is the shelf life of EFS Liquid Shot?

A: The EFS liquid shot-shelf life is dependent on use. The jug, when poured into a flask or any other container is stable for 18 months from the date of manufacture. The expiration date is listed on the bottom. This shelf life is based on room temperature, though First Endurance does recommend refrigeration as an additional precaution. The flask shelf-life starts the minute you put your lips to the bottle. Because this introduces bacteria and because this is typically done during hot training sessions, First Endurance recommends consumption within 24 hours. Following your workout you can clean the flask and re-fill from the Jug.

Q: How is the EFS-LS different than most gels on the market?

A: Unlike the “gels” that are on the market, the EFS Liquid Shot does not contain any gelling agents, which slow down absorption and digestion. The EFS-LS also uses highly versatile and Eco-Friendly packaging that can be recycled and minimizes waste. EFS-LS delivers 400 super-charged calories that are fortified with over 1,500mg of electrolytes, 1,000mg amino acids and 100 grams of simple & complex carbohydrates- all in clinically effective doses.

Q: I’ve heard that there are benefits to having protein during exercise. Why doesn’t EFS-LS contain protein?

A: EFS-LS contains 1g Free Form Amino Acids per serving which is the equivalent in BCAA and Glutamine profile to 5g Whey Protein. Protein naturally contains Branched Chain Amino Acids and Glutamine. Clinical evidence that shows the benefits of Branched Chain Amino acids and Glutamine during exercise dates back to 1991. These clinical studies show supplementing with as little as 1g Free Form Amino Acids improves performance, reduces post-exercise muscle damage, improves muscle glycogen resynthesis, reduces central fatigue and improves rate of perceived exertion.

    Q: Can I re-use the flask?

A: Yes, the EFS Liquid Shot flask is resealable and refillable. Re-using the flask is eco-friendly because it minimizes waste. The EFS-LS flask can be cleaned in the dish washer. First Endurance offers a large 32oz Jug that can be used to refill flasks. The EFS Liquid Shot flask is also recyclable.

Q: How long does the large 32oz Jug last and how do I store it?

A: The large jug will refill six (6) flasks. It comes with an 18-month shelf-life and should be stored in a cool place once it’s been opened. Once the flask is filled it should be consumed within 24 hours unless it is stored in a refrigerator.
