Off-Road Cyclist for OpiCure Foundation Gravel Team
"The best training advice I ever received is to be painfully patient"
I grew up in Southern California and didn’t find the bike until I went off to college at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. There I joined the collegiate cycling team and fell in love with racing. Today after many seasons of road racing I have focused my time from road racing into helping run - with my brother Cullen - OpiCure Foundation as well as racing gravel full time.
Stage 6: 2017
Stage 3: 2018
Stage 2 Most Aggressive Rider: 2018
"Packed with carbs and electrolytes, EFS-PRO is my go-to. The Sour Watermelon flavor especially keeps me drinking all day."
"I love these. It’s like getting a kick of speed every time I smash one during training and racing."
"After a long hard workout, two heaping scoops, water and a blender and it’s like drinking an iced latte. Delicious and packed with recovery."
Goal(s) for 2023:
My goal for 2023 is to be as consistent as I can throughout the season. A big focus is the Lifetime Grand Prix Off-Road series as well as The Quadrupel Crown of Gravel BWR.
What’s the best training advice you’ve ever received and who gave it to you?
“Be painfully patient.” - Chris Horner
If you could have one superpower, which would you choose and why?
I would choose the power of flight. I would love the ability to soar the sky and perch wherever my heart’s desire.
Describe your first bike.
My first bike was an awesome Trek full suspension mountain bike. Red, white and blue. I saw it at the local bike shop and put it on my Christmas list. When I woke up Christmas morning, there it was freshly dropped off from Santa.
What's the craziest thing that’s ever happened to you?
I did an overnight bikepacking trip into the Uintas and woke up to a mountain lion stalking me. I yelled, “Get out of here!” and luckily that was all it took for the cat to run off.
I didn’t sleep the rest of the night.
What's your favorite movie and why?
One of my favorite movies is Dumb and Dumber. We would watch it when we drove up from SoCal to Mammoth and it’s hilarious. Also the soundtrack is totally awesome.
Guilty pleasure food item?
Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls. I can eat the entire sleeve.
Guilty pleasure song?
“Party in the U.S.A.” - Miley Cyrus
What is your most memorable meal?
Fresh pizza margarita from a hole in the wall shop in Rome, Italy. I remember the shop had a long marble counter covered with an entire rectangle pizza. You pointed and said a piece of that, and the worker would pause, nod, then chop a square for consumption.
Who is your greatest mentor and what did they teach you?
My dad. He always has a positive outlook on life and I try to follow that way of life.
Tell us about your pet(s).
We grew up with Doberman dogs. They look scary, but are some of the nicest, sweetest pets.
