The reigning XTERRA World Champion, Lesley Paterson, started her season right where she finished off last year – at the top of the podium.

In her first XTERRA of 2019, Paterson came out ready for battle at the second stop on the European Tour. XTERRA Greece features a swim in the Gulf of Vouliagmeni and a scenic and demanding mountain bike and trail run course which brought out the best in Paterson.

Third out of the water, Paterson was 2:25 down from eventual 3rd place finisher Deldaele Charlotte and 1:44 ahead of eventual 2nd place Helena Karaskova Erbenova. Paterson had the second fastest bike, 58 seconds shy of Erbenova’s split and used her superior race best run speed, to stay out front to take the XTERRA Greece title.

In her enthusiastic manner, Paterson commented

“I’m stoked to get another win under my belt for the start of the season. First one out of the gate, especially with jetlag, is always tough but onwards and upwards!”

“XTERRA Greece was beautiful and very special given the history of the place. It was a very well organized race and a wonderful atmosphere”

A 2-time ITU World Cross Triathlon Champion, Paterson has been preparing for the 2019 event taking place on April 30 in Spain, and said “I’m feeling right where I need to be for World’s. Another 10 days of being here and getting used to the time change and I’ll be ready to roll!”
