South Dakota State University conducted an independent study on the original PreRace formula to determine its effectiveness on cycling endurance. The double-blind placebo controlled study used seven trained cyclists in a 40K time trial. Each cyclist performed two 40K time trials.

On the first TT the cyclist consumed either a placebo or PreRace mixed with one serving of EFS 30 minutes prior to doing a 40K TT.  One week later each cyclist would switch the protocol and receive the opposite of what he/she received the previous week.

CAFFEINE

Caffeine stimulates the central nervous system (CNS), increases the release of adrenaline, increases the use of body fat as fuel and spares glycogen. Adrenaline release is accomplished through caffeine’s effect on epinephrine and nor-epinephrine. Many athletes seek this CNS excitatory response to increase alertness and to give them the extra ‘energy’ needed for their workouts. More importantly, caffeine mobilizes free fatty acids (FFA) in the blood. Increased FFA in the blood allows the body to use fat as a fuel source. The use of fat as fuel allows the body to spare glycogen (carbohydrates) for later use in exercise.

L-TAURINE

Through its cardio and oxidative protective roles, oral administration of taurine can improve exercise performance significantly. Furthermore, pre-exercise taurine administration can reduce muscle damage caused by endurance training. Researchers also theorize that it is through the cellular protective properties that taurine attenuates exercise-induced DNA damage and enhances the capacity of exercise.

Q&A

Q: How long should a bottle last?
A: The new PreRace formula contains 30 servings/container and should last two to three months.

Q: How does the price compare to the previous formula?
A: The prior formula was 20 servings per container.  The new formula contains 50% more servings and is the same cost per serving.  The new formula is significantly better at no additional cost.

Q: What are the benefits of using PreRace for training and Racing?
A: The benefits include:

Q: Should I use PreRace only for racing or is it good for training also?

A: There are a number of other benefits to using PreRace in training. It will give you a number of opportunities to see how your body reacts to PreRace. People react differently to PreRace. Using it in training allows you to test different doses. That way, on race day you’ll not only be more fit, you’ll also know exactly how you like to use PreRace.

Q: Is PreRace vegan friendly?

A: Yes.

Q: Is PreRace gluten-free?

Q: The last formula didn’t taste great, how does this new formula compare? 
A: It’s slightly better, but not by much. The new formula tastes similar to bitter, unsweetened tea. The reason for this is because PreRace 2.0 does not contain any flavorings. It’s designed to be mixed with your favorite flavor of EFS/EFS-PRO hydration mix.

Q: How should I use PreRace?

A: Take one scoop ~30 minutes before exercise. For best results, mix it with a serving of EFS or EFS-PRO. Because of the pharmacokinetics of the ingredients, a second dose can be used after 2-3 hours of extreme exercise. While it mixes well with water, PreRace complements EFS and EFS-PRO, including by promoting magnesium absorption and general cell hydration, so we can’t recommend that pairing strongly enough.

Use PreRace for key workouts and races that require you to push past your normal limits. Once or twice a week, incorporate a workout that requires a pace or distance that is beyond your comfort zone and use PreRace to help you push past that. Make sure you give yourself enough time to recover from the workout. This is critical. If you aren’t fully recovered from this workout, you won’t realize the benefits of this strategy, so be vigilant in your recovery.

Q: What are the recommendations for race day?

A: For races of three hours or less consume PreRace 30 minutes prior to the race.  For races greater than three hours athletes must decide how best to dose PreRace.  Some athletes can handle stimulants over many hours, some cannot.  Athletes who are more sensitive to stimulants should consider using PreRace for the final couple hours of the race where it matters most.
