Jenn Jackson

XC Assassin

Biography

Some call me Jennifer Jackson, but most call me Jenn, others call me Jackson, still others call me JJ, and some just bark. I spent several years through university trying to be a really fast cross-country skier, but then discovered mountain biking was a much more fun way to suffer. I worked my way into the sport through bike shop jobs and currently race professionally for Liv Factory Racing on the World Cup circuit. On the daily, I’m taking care of my sourdough starter, sampling coffee beans I can barely afford, enjoying the outdoors, trying to remember to call my family more often, and always working on the dream.

What’s your favorite quote and where did you first hear it?

The days I have my gratitude higher than my expectation, I have really good days.

Who is your favorite author and what is their best work?

For fiction, Stiegg Larsson’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series is probably my favourite.

What’s the best training advice you’ve ever received and who gave it to you?

Success comes mostly from being stubborn and sensible.

How did you get started in your sport?

While working at a local bike shop while I was still primarily cross-country skiing my friends encouraged me to come out for shop rides and the local race series. I caught the bug then and there in 2016, then in 2017 started racing some provincial and national level events. I actually won the U23 National Championships that summer, very unexpected, and qualified for World Championships but wasn’t able to attend. I spent the next couple years working on my skills and bike-specific fitness so in 2019 I was ready to start racing the World Cup and have been competing there since.
